Dieppe Dash 2019
What's better than shaking off early season dust than a quick dash to delightful Dieppe? And so it was early on the Friday of the May Day Holiday weekend Steve, Chris, Bob , George, Lynn , Mike and Andrew scraped out of Brighton Marina to the start line of the Dieppe Dash 2019. The initial thrill subsided somewhat as we became becalmed at the start line and proceeded to let go the anchor! A number of participants retired at this stage, but in true BBSC spirit our gallant crew did not give up and 3 hours later (!) passed the first mark and set off south east helped by a slowly strengthening north westerly. Before long we had the cruising shute and mizzen stay sail up and enjoyed a splendid sail to cross the finishing line as darkness fell….. in fourth place.
Saturday was spent enjoying Dieppe and the hospitality of arranged in the Dieppe Yacht Club by the race organiser (Brighton Marina Yacht Club and The Portes de Normandie). We sailed back to Brighton on the Sunday, earlier than planned, to take advantage of a favourable weather forecast.
A splendid weekend – much enjoyed by all.
