Cruise
Kirkwall to Torshaven
After joining the boat on Saturday 26th May in Kirkwall, we shall explore the Orkney islands for three or four days before moving on to the Shetland islands for a couple of days and finally make the two day crossing to The Faroe islands. This will be a great mix of gentle island hopping and some more serious offshore passage making. Many interesting sites to see on land and wildlife to see on the coasts.
Orkney is an archipelago off the northeastern coast of Scotland. The islands encompass Neolithic sites, tall sandstone cliffs and seal colonies. The 'Heart of Neolithic Orkney' is a group of 5,000-year-old sites on Mainland, the largest island including Skara Brae, a preserved village with a reconstructed house, and Maeshowe, a chambered burial tomb incorporating 12th-century Viking carvings.
Shetland is another 125Nm North-Northeast. We shall stop in the port of Lerwick to meet a few of this distant but thriving island community before doing a little more island hopping to see the wild life and more remote parts of the archipelago.
