I started sailing in dinghies, first learning the ropes in any boat I could get my hands on, then racing in Fireballs. I later turned to yachts and worked my way up through crewing in club racing, getting qualified (RYA Yachtmaster Offshore), skippering my own yacht in inshore races and cruising, skippering bareboat charters abroad and in the West Highlands, crewing for deliveries etc.
In 2016 I skippered my first trips with Brighton Belle: a cruise from Tenerife around the western Canary Islands, taking in Carnival in La Palma; a delivery-cruise from Tenerife to Madeira; and a delivery from Amsterdam to London.
In 2017 BB circumnavigated the UK, and I had the pleasure of sailing the length of the western isles and across to Mallaig, via Canna and the south coast of Skye. I also brought her back from Dublin to Plymouth, enjoying some fine west-country cruising en route.
2018 presented an opportunity to sail around the Channel Islands, with a final channel crossing to Plymouth. I also took BB from A Coruña to Baiona, exploring Galicia's fine Rias Baixas region. To contribute another leg to our coast-hopping delivery to the Canaries, I took her from Lisbon to Vilamoura on the Algarve, via Cadiz and the Andalucian Atlantic coast.
Other trips include a cruise round Mull taking in Coll, Eigg and the beautiful and secluded Loch Moidart. Later the same year I sailed her down the wild Atlantic west coast of Ireland from Sligo to Galway, calling in at some of the western islands, including Inishbofin.
