Our yacht

Brighton Belle is an Oyster 55, a cutter-rigged ketch, built in 1986 by Oyster Marine Ltd in Suffolk. Her hull is constructed in GRP with a fin keel and a skeg-mounted rudder.

She was conceived as an easy to handle, long-range cruising yacht. Oyster's manufacturing success and her design has set an industry standard in both quality and safety. 

Below, she has berths for seven people arranged in two forward cabins, a pilot's berth, and an en suite master cabin astern. A spacious saloon and well-equipped galley make for comfortable eating and socialising with a crew of six or seven. A sail locker in the forepeak doubles as a workshop.

There are two heads (toilet/shower rooms) with hot and cold running water and vacuum toilets.

Her sail wardrobe includes a mainsail, a genoa and a yankee, fore and mizzen staysails, a mizzen, a cruising chute and a spinnaker.

The main engine is a Perkins Sabre six cylinder diesel producing 135 horse power. Ancillary systems include a 240 volt diesel generator (new in 2020) and diesel air heating.

Her navigation equipment includes an autopilot, GPS chart plotters in the cockpit and at the navigation desk, radar, comprehensive wind and boat-speed sensors and VHF and SSB radio.

The club takes great care to maintain the boat in excellent seaworthy condition. In 2013, the hull was refinished with Coppercoat, a copper/epoxy anti-fouling treatment that does not have to be renewed each year.
